Western GamesThe inaugural Western Games will be staged in the Mount Isa region on 4 and 5 July. To be coordinated by the North Queensland Sports Foundation, the event will include sporting events being held in Mount Isa as well as the North West corridor of Cloncurry, Richmond, Hughenden and Charters Towers. Commander Centre Sportstar AwardsOn a night that has been described as simply fantastic, the winners of the Commander Centre North Queensland Sportstar Awards were honoured on Saturday 4 April in front of a large and appreciative audience at the historic Burns Philp building in Normanton. Nobody would have thought about holding a Sportstar Awards evening in this “tin shed” when the building was constructed in the late 1800’s. Similarly the impressive air-conditioning unit that was hired for the evening was unthinkable all those years ago! |
