 Joint winners for the North Queensland Sportstar Awards

For the first time in the twenty two year history of the North Queensland Sportstar Awards, there were joint winners of the senior Award. For the fourth year in a row, Mackay featured in this award, providing one of the joint Winners, in Melinda McLeod a BMX rider, who shared the award with ultra marathon runner and triathlete Mike Le Roux from Cairns.
Judges had found it impossible to separate the two winners’ achievements in 2011, in two very different sports, and consequently the award will be shared. This year’s North Queensland Sportstar Awards were held at the Bob Wood Cultural Hall in Sarina, and hosted by the Mackay Regional Council. More Information.....

2011 Xstrata Great Western Games – Great Support, Great Results, Great Events…

Under the guidance of Normanton local Mike Stevenson, Queensland Remote Hockey used the Xstrata Great Western Games to engage participants to progress from school sport to club sport in the northern gulf region.    More Info......

bhp Billiton North Queensland Development Bursaries.

The North Queensland Sports Foundation has finalised the list of thirty two young North Queenslanders to receive North Queensland Sport Development Bursaries. The North Queensland Sports Foundation has again combined with BHP Billiton Cannington Mine to distribute a total of $24,000 toward the development of the sporting careers of young North Queenslanders.
The thirty two young North Queenslanders will receive $750 each towards fostering their sporting careers. To further acknowledge their achievements, the recipients are also awarded exclusive embroidered track-tops identifying their award. Presentations of the bursaries are being held at local Council offices throughout the north.
